Dorothy Asbury

Dorothy Tutt Asbury passed away on December 19, 2013. She was born in Taft, Texas on June 26, 1925 to Edward N. and Geneva (Davis) Tutt, early settlers and long-time residents of Taft. She was a graduate of Taft High School and the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Gamma Fraternity. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Taft during her youth and at her death was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio where she had been active in her Sunday school class. She was a member of the San Antonio de Bexar Chapter of the DAR and Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter. She was a retired employee of the Tesoro Petroleum Corporation. She married Ed A. Asbury in 1984 and they traveled extensively during their 22 years of marriage. She spent her final months near her daughter in Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Phyllis T. Fessler (1982) and Marian T. Lambert (2001) and her husband (2006). She is survived by her son Keith Burtner of Dallas, daughter Ann B. Schuller (Robert) of Overland Park, KS, two step-daughters Scottie A. Smith (Keith) of Plano and Cynthia A. Sanchez (Sonny) of Edmond, OK, six grandchildren Kate and Will Schuller, Jordon and Andy Smith and Erin and Sonny Sanchez. Also surviving are two nieces and seven great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 27, 2013 in the chapel at Trinity Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held later that afternoon at 3:30 pm at the Taft Memorial Park in Taft. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the South Texas Children's Home Ministries, PO Box 1210, Beeville, TX 78104 (www.stchm.org).
