Doris Catherine Mircovich

     Doris Ellis Mircovich passed away on February 12, 2016 following a brief illness. She was born on June 23, 1933 in Fort Worth, Texas to D.C. and Chloe McMillan Ellis. Mr Ellis died in an accident, and Doris was brought up by her mother and beloved step-father Fred Hodges.
     She graduated from North Texas University and began her thirty-four year teaching career at Breckenridge High School. It was there she met Carlo Mircovich who was on the coaching staff with Emory Bellard. She and Carlo married on August 22, 1958, and she taught at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo and Rockport before going to Gregory-Portland Junior High School where she taught Texas History until her retirement in 1989. Ever the gracious hostess, Doris and Carlo owned and operated Mircovich Catering for a number of years.
     After Coach Mircovich retired, they enjoyed traveling in their RV and making scores of friends along their journeys.
     Doris was an accomplished bridge player and treasured the time spent with her caring, loyal bridge friends. She was an avid fan of the San Antonio Spurs. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Portland, the Texas State Teachers Association, the Texas Retired Teachers Association, and the ChatWork Civic Club of Portland. Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband and her brother Dale Ellis. She is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
     Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Limbaugh Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Portland. Interment will follow at The Palms Memorial Gardens.
