Dora Cabrera Sandoval

Dora Cabrera Sandoval, age 65, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Portland, Texas on February 19, 2017 after a heroic battle with cancer.  Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Dora had touched in some way throughout her memorable life.  Dora was born September 1, 1951, in Matamoros, Mexico to Luis and Raquel P. Cabrera. She graduated from Gregory Portland High School in 1971 and attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi where she received her Associates degree in Business Administration.  She worked for Texas Education Agency, Gregory Portland Independent School District and Calallen Independent School District in administration for several years. On June 29, 1974 Dora married Joaquin Sandoval Jr. and they had 3 children.  She loved her family and involved herself in many details of their lives, including sports events, recitals and concerts. She loved to cook.  Her past times included puzzles and crocheting. She was a woman of strong faith and she was a parishioner at Corpus Christi Cathedral.Dora’s parents and her brother Juan P. Cabrera preceded her in death.

Cherishing her memory are her husband of 42 years, Joaquin Sandoval Jr., her children Joshua M. (Jamie) Sandoval, Laura R. Sandoval, and Joseph M. (Natalie) Sandoval and 5 grandchildren; Jonah, Jace, Allyson, Jarron and Jaxen.  She is also survived by her brother, Jose Samuel (Alicia) Cabrera and her sisters Yolanda C (Frank) Garza, Maria L (Raymundo) Gonzalez, Irma Cabrera, and Ida L Cabrera and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Limbaugh Funeral Home in Portland, Texas on Thursday, February 23rd from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a rosary beginning at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass is scheduled at 10:00am on Friday, February 24th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gregory, Texas.  Interment will follow at Taft Memorial Cemetery in Taft, Texas. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Gentiva Hospice Care for their support in her final days.
