Diana "Dee" Gamez Elizondo
Retired school principal Diana "Dee" Elizondo's love of education didn't come to an end with her death. Dee passed away on November 11, 2021, at the age of 69 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Diana Gamez Elizondo was born on October 3, 1952, in Haskell, Texas.
Dee completed her Bachelor's degree at the Texas A&I University. After a couple of years teaching Dee went back to school to complete several Master degrees in the field of education. Dee spent over thirty-five years working in education. Dee's pride was in her school and students, and she shared her passion for learning with thousands of children over the years. She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily adventures as a principal. Her pleasant but stern personality touched the lives of thousands of students, parents, and fellow educators.
The simplest pleasures in life brought joy to Dee. She loved family gatherings with a glass of wine in hand. Reading was her favorite hobby. Dee enjoyed reading classic literature out loud with her children and grandchildren. During summer and school breaks Dee often explored the world traveling to exotic cities such as Jerusalem, Romo, and London. Dee also lived abroad for over a decade in Venezuela, Guatemala, and Scotland.
She is survived by her two children, Diane Denise Elizondo (Clint) Zimmerman and David Page (Toni) Elizondo. Dee is survived by eight grandchildren; Ryan P. Elizondo, Sidney Nichole Zimmerman, Alezandra Sofia Elizondo, Nicholas Beau Zimmerman, Cody C. Zimmerman, Rylie Savannah Zimmerman, Bodhi Elizondo, and Derek Muniz. Siblings, Armando (Norma) Gamez, Jr., Juan Jose (The Late Rosalba) Gamez, Arnold Gamez, Dalia Gamez (Richard) Kemp, Jesus Humberto Gamez and Mario Gamez. Dee is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dee was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ricardo "Rick" Roel Elizondo. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Emilia Gonzalez Ruiz and her father Armando Gamez, Sr.
Services for remembrance of Dee Elizondo will be held at Kingsville Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, November 18 th , 2021. The family will be receiving guests starting at 5:00 p.m. with a rosary starting at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Martin's church in Kingsville, Texas on Friday, November 19 th , 2021, at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Chamberlin Cemetery in Kingsville, Texas. Those who wish to remember Dee in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Kleberg County Adult Literacy Counsel at 220 North Fourth, Kingsville, Texas 78363. Arrangements by Kingsville Memorial Funeral Home at 2303 General Cavazos, Kingsville, Texas.
Pallbearers are Ryan Elizondo, Nicholas Zimmerman, Jaime De La Garza, Omar Beltran, Xavier Fernandez, Armando Gamez, III., Arnold Gamez, and Cameron Nucete. Honorary Pallbearers are Richard Gutierrez, Jr., Tanner Smith, Arnulfo Guajardo, III and Antonio Guajardo.
