David Kay Posada, a beloved family man, dedicated worker, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, in Portland, Texas. Born on January 15, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to parents, Ignacio Posada and Eusebia Medina Posada, David was a true son of South Texas, whose life leaves an enduring mark on all who knew him.

David graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1965. Demonstrating a keen sense of duty and patriotism, he answered the call of service for his country and joined the United States Army in 1965. During his honorable six-year tenure, he served bravely in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, embodying courage and devotion. His service to the nation would remain a defining chapter of his life, ultimately shaping his character and approach to all that he undertook.

On February 26, 1966, David married the love of his life, Yolanda Bosquez, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Their union, which spanned over six decades, was marked by unwavering partnership, affection, and deep mutual respect. Yolanda survives him, and their shared memories will continue to be a source of comfort and pride.

After returning from military service, David began a remarkable career with Reynolds Metals Company (now Sherwin Alumina) in 1969. His career lasted 39 years until his retirement in 2008. The colleagues he worked alongside remember him for his steady dedication, formidable work ethic, and the genuine camaraderie he fostered in the workplace. Additionally, David was a committed member of several organizations: the United Steelworkers of America (a charter member of the AFL CIU CLC), Disabled American veterans Chapter 150, Knights of Columbus, and SOAR (Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees). His advocacy and participation reflected his steadfast belief in the power of community and solidarity.

Beyond his career and service, David was a man of many passions and talents. He was a skilled craftsman, applying his creativity to leatherwork and woodworking projects. The lamps and clocks he fashioned stand as testaments to his ingenuity. He cultivated a thriving garden and possessed a well-known green thumb, always finding satisfaction in nurturing life from the earth.

David's enthusiasm for cars, particularly his prized 1957 Chevy Bel Air, was a defining trait. He participated in car shows and drag racing events, earning several awards and trophies, and creating many friendships along the way. He found endless joy in restoring, showing, and racing his beloved car – a pastime for which many will fondly remember him.

A Harley Davidson enthusiast, David relished the open road, attending bike rallies and building cherished memories. Equally renowned were his culinary skills. He had a particular flair for barbecuing, often delighting family and friends with his delicious brisket. His award-winning #1 Harley Davidson chili was a highlight at cook offs, where he garnered recognition and trophies.

David also loved the simple pleasures of watching the Dallas Cowboys play football, keeping up with news on CNN, and proudly displaying his impressive collection of baseball caps. Each interest reflected his zest for life, humor, and the joy he found in everyday moments.

David is reunited with his parents, Ignacio and Eusebia Posada; sister, Gumesinda Posada; and grandson, John David Ruiz. He leaves his cherished memories to his beloved wife of 60 years, Yolanda Posada; daughters, Christina Posada (Rick) Hinojosa, Diane (Chris) Nawara, and Paula (Thomas) Hughes; grandchildren, Chrystal Ruiz, Herminia "Minnie" Duhart, Theodore Hughes, Everette Hughes, and Jerald Emanuel Hughes; and great-grandson, Wyatt David Ruiz; as well as numerous members of extended family and friends.

The Posada family would like to express their gratitude to Harbor Hospice, especially Nurse Ana, CNA Terry Ybarra, and Mary Ellen McMinn and Bridgette Barrera who all assisted in providing around the clock care for David during these difficult times.

Friends and family are invited to honor David’s memory at a series of services to be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Portland, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the Holy Rosary at 10:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 AM. Rite of Committal and Interment with Final Military Honors will begin at 1 PM and be held at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas. A reception will immediately follow the internment at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parrish Hall in Portland, Texas.

David Kay Posada lived a rich and meaningful life, characterized by steadfast love, commitment to service, creative talent, and a vibrant passion for all he did. Those privileged to know him will carry forward his memory with deep affection and respect, holding close the many moments of kindness, laughter, and joy he so freely shared.
