Consuelo Rosalez

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Consuelo Rosalez, who gracefully departed this world on January 11, 2026, in Mathis, Texas, at the age of 71. Born on October 19, 1954, in Goliad, Texas, Consuelo made an indelible mark on the lives of many through her unwavering dedication to education, community service, and the loving warmth she bestowed upon her family and friends.

Consuelo's illustrious career in education began after she graduated from PSJA High School in 1973 and later earned her Bachelor's Degree in Science from Texas A&M University of Kingsville in 1995. Her commitment to shaping young minds spanned over two decades, during which she served at various educational institutions. Notably, she dedicated herself to Mathis ISD for 20 years from 1999 until her retirement in 2020, having also spent two impactful years at West Oso ISD and one year at Donna ISD. In her classrooms, students were treated not just as learners but as aspiring individuals with dreams — her life lessons, often colored by her own experiences working in the fields, inspired generations to never give up on their education. Indeed, Consuelo embodied the true essence of a teacher and mentor, leaving a legacy that will be honored long after her departure.

In addition to her vocation as an educator, Consuelo was a devoted parishioner at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mathis, Texas, where she actively contributed as a religious education teacher. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her compassionate spirit as she also volunteered with the St. Francis Xavier Mission Church in Tynan, Texas. Further reflecting her immense love for her community, she was a cherished member of the Mathis Pirate Athletic Booster Club during her children's high school years.

Consuelo's zest for life extended beyond the classroom; she was a woman of varied interests who embraced her passions with fervor. Whether it was fishing, cooking, or watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, or Mathis Pirates, her heart brimmed with joy. Her adventures included trips to Eagle Pass and Lake Charles, where she loved to "visit" the casinos, sharing laughter and good times with those around her, despite never winning big.

In the tapestry of her life, Consuelo was not only a devoted wife to her partner Benito Rosalez for 48 wonderful years but also a loving mother to their children: Abran, Luke, and Skye, who shared in her values and spirit. She reveled in the joy of being a grandmother to Joshua, Gabriella, Abigail, and Allison, pouring her love into every moment spent with them. Consuelo's vibrant presence will surely be missed, yet her spirit will live on through the love and teachings she imparted.

Consuelo is reunited with her parents, Fortunato and Celia Rivera Sr.; siblings, Fortunato Rivera Jr. and Maria Alicia Sahagun; and sister-in-law, Diann Rivera. She leaves her memories to her beloved husband, Benito Rosalez; children, Abran (Christina) Rosalez, Luke (Kaci) Rosalez, and Skye (Amado Martinez III) Rosalez; grandchildren, Joshua Gonzalez, Gabriella Rosalez, Abigail Rosalez, and Allison Rosalez-Garces; siblings, Frances (Alvarao) Moreno Sr., Oralia (Luis) Villarreal, Beatris Munoz, Jaime (Idalia) Rivera, Jose Angel Rivera, Lorenzo (Claudia) Rivera, and Abel (Sandra) Rivera; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Juanita Melendez of Alamo, Texas, who provided tireless care to Consuelo, assisting the Rosalez family during difficult times. They also express appreciation to Sally and Emily from Tribute Hospice for their compassionate care and professionalism.

Those with the honor of being a pallbearer are as follows: Joshua Gonzalez, Roland Sanchez, Roland Andruw Sanchez, Samuel Sarate Jr., Emiliano Moreno, and Allison Rosalez-Garces.
