Charlie Walker passed away on January 19, 2016. He was born to Walter and Pearl Walker on September 5, 1927 in Alexandria, Louisiana. He came to Kingsville, Texas at the tender age of 2. He attended Federick Douglas School and graduated from Solomon Coles High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and served from 1946 to 1950. After an honorable discharge he relocated back to Kingsville where he met and married Flossie Rhodes, and to this union 3 children were born, Lester, Charlesetta and Charles Jr. Charlie and Flossie united with the King Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.R. Reese. Charlie was a faithful member of the Church until his health failed. Charlie was employed for 43 years at Kingsville Naval Air Station in many capacities. He accumulated numerous awards of achievement. Charlie was a dedicated family man and a good provider.
He was an avid bicycle rider rain or shine. He could be seen riding his bike to and from the base. Charlie had a vibrant personality and a warm loving smile. He "Loved" everybody. Whenever he came in contact with the ladies in the community he always greeted them with terms of endearment. Flossie preceded him in death and he later married Lyris Chinapoo on November 8, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pearl Walker and a grandson, Dederick Walker.
Charlie leaves a loving legacy, his wife Lyris Chinapoo Walker, one daughter Charlesetta (Kelvin) Chinapoo of Kingsville, Texas, two sons Lester (Carol) Reese and Charlie Walker Jr. both of Pflugerville, Texas, two sisters, Janie (Willie) Davis and Joyce King and one brother Walter (Bubba) Walker Jr. all of Kingsville, Texas, one sister in law Sallie (Charles Jr.) Brazzell of Alice, Texas. Three granddaughters, Sonya Walker, Beatrice (Cornelio) Covarrubias both of Kingsville, Texas and Lisa (Merchal) Jones of San Antonio, Texas, two grandsons, Mert (Melissa) Menifee of Kingsville, Texas and Anthony Reese from Austin, Texas, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great- great grandchildren and one on the way. A host of loving nieces and nephews and good friends.
Visitation will be Friday, January 29, 2016 from 7:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. at Kingsville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at Kingsville Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
