Charles Chick James

Charles W. (Chick) James, 85 of Portland, TX went to be with our Lord on December 17, 2018.  Chick was born in Anson, Texas on January 29, 1933.  After High School he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served four years in the Korean War on the U.S.S. Pittsburgh.   On October 14, 1955 he married Mary Lee Newman and raised three children together.  Chick retired from Reynolds Metals after 39 years.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Gregory-Portland sports fan. Chick was a lifetime member of the GP Booster Club.  He enjoyed playing the harmonica, dominoes and listening to country music.  Chick was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Portland and loved his Lord and Savior.

Chick was preceded in death by his mother and father, four sisters, three brothers and a grandson.  He was survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lee James, his daughter, Renee (Gary) Merrell, and son’s Mark and Darren James.  He was adored by his six grandchildren and eight great-grand children.

Visitation will be held from 5-7p.m on December 20, 2018. at Limbaugh Funeral home.  Funeral services will be held at 10a.m on December 21, 2018. at the First Baptist Church in Portland, TX.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Portland, TX (1305 Wildcat Dr. Portland, TX 78374) or a charity of your choice.
