Burton Edward "Burt" Nelson

Burton Edward Nelson, 90 years young, peacefully went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 20, 2013. He was born in Burns, Montana to Ed and Olive H. Nelson. He was baptized on November 18, 1922. He graduated from Savage High School in 1940. He was a veteran pilot in the U.S. Navy, earning the Navy Wings of Gold in 1944 at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. He then went to work in Victoria, Texas for Halliburton until 1950. In 1951, he was recalled into the Korean War. He married Earleen Riebschlaeger in July, 1951. They had two sons, Teddy and Tommy. Earleen passed away in 1963 with cancer. He retired a Lieutenant Commander from the U.S. Navy in 1952. In 1959, Burt went to work for Sun Oil Company in Louisiana transferring to the Corpus Christi area in 1962. In August, 1964, Burt married Doris Schulze Schneider, a widow with three small children, Becky, Nancy and Russell. Burt retired from Sun Exploration in March, 1986. He was a member of the Over 50 & 60 Golf Associations, API, SPEC, GP Booster Club and Sun Retiree Club. He was also a member and trustee of St. John Lutheran Church. Burt is survived by his wife Doris, sons Tommy Nelson, Teddy Nelson, Russell (Sheila) Schneider and daughters Becky (Frank) Siegel and Nancy Schneider, as well as 7 grandchildren, Wesley (Andrea) Nelson, Bradley Nelson, Jennifer Nelson, Missy Siegel, Kara, Morgan and Jaymee Schneider and 3 great grandchildren Karleigh, Keaton and Kaden Nelson. He will always be remembered for his love of polka music, golf and cruising. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kristina Kovanda with New Century Hospice, and Ida Grimes with Absolute Caring Services, for their patience and wonderful care.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 24, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Limbaugh Funeral Home in Portland, TX. Services will be at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Corpus Christi, Friday, 12:30 p.m., with burial at 2:00 p.m. at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family request memorials be given to Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 5101 Saratoga, Corpus Christi, TX 78413. Arrangements entrusted to Limbaugh Funeral Home, 500 Wildcat Dr., Portland, Texas 78374 (361) 643-6564
