Bruce Ray McDonald

On January 26, 2018, Bruce Ray McDonald was reunited in heaven with his infant son, Nolan Ray McDonald; his sister, Debra Kay McDonald and his father, Bobby Ray McDonald. Bruce was born on August 26, 1959 in San Angelo, TX to Bobby Ray McDonald and JoEtta Eubanks.       Bruce is survived by his mother, JoEtta Eubanks of Mathis, TX and his sister, Bobbie Jo Meyer of Beeville, TX; nieces, Keri (Sergio) Meyer-Garza of Klein, TX, Tracy (Chris) Chiles of New Braunsfel, TX, and nephew, Price Meyer of Beeville, TX;  great-nephews, Hunter Calley, Benjamin Garza, and great-niece Lillian Garza. Bruce attended elementary school in San Angelo, secondary school in Corpus Christi attending Tuloso-Midway, and graduated from Lamar High School of Rosenberg, TX in 1977.   He attended college at Angelo State University and earned his degree, Bachelor of Science in Geology, from the University of Texas Permian Basin in 1982.  He had a career in oil and gas as an independent geologist.     Bruce loved to be outdoors, fishing and hunting, chili cook-offs, attending UT football games, and competing with uncles and cousins at McDonald family gatherings in horseshoes and washers.  Later in years, he enjoyed sharing stories and recollections. He cherished time with his family and friends. Bruce always rooted for the underdog.  He had compassion for animals.  Bruce was not one to boast.  In Bruce’s younger days he once saved a man from drowning.  Most of the family did not know what he had done until it came out in the San Angelo newspaper.  Bruce was easy going and enjoyed being around people. Towards the end of his time with us, Bruce had suffered many health issues and succumbed to congestive heart failure.  He touched many hearts in a quiet way and will surely be missed. A memorial service will be held in Mathis, TX  at Dobie Funeral Home on March 3, 2018; Visitation at 1:00 P.M. and memorial service to follow at 2:00 P.M.  Email
