Bobby G. Mullins

Our beloved father, Bobby Gene Mullins, of Portland, Texas passed away February 4, 2017 at the age of 88 surrounded by his family.  He was born August 24, 1928 to Henry and Fannie Mullins in Brandon, Texas. 

Bobby spent his life in agricultural, growing up on a cotton farm in north central Texas. He was one of 8 children.  He married Rubie Joyce Johnson in 1950.  In 1962 they moved to south Texas where he worked servicing cotton gins in the area for Continental Moss Gordon; then operated his own cotton gin repair business, E&M Gin Repair.   In 1970 he purchased the West Portland Gin which he managed and operated until 2011. He continued to be actively involved the operation of it until his death.  The cotton gin was his passion.  It was his livelihood as well as his hobby.   He once commented that few people were as blessed as he to spend their life doing something they truly loved.  His children will be forever blessed with all he taught us about life, running a business and being grateful for all God has given us.

Bobby is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, his parents, brothers, Henry and Jack, and sisters Gladys, Lola and Ruth.

He is survived by his children, Paula (Tom) Bowman of Plano, Texas, Rita (Mark) Evans of Portland, Texas, Sheila Miears of Mineola, Texas, Larry Mullins of Lockney, Texas, Nancy (Danny) Brooker of North Zulch, Texas and JoLynn  Jannsen of Portland, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Marie Tyler and brother, Lloyd (Florence) Mullins.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Bobby Mullins will be Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 4545 Wildcat Drive, Portland, Texas
