Obituary

Billy Dean Hancock, 65, of Mathis, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 5, 2026, in Portland, Texas. Billy was born on July 4, 1960, in Beeville, Texas, to Billy Joe and Dorothy Hancock. He attended school in Beeville and Karnes City and graduated from Falls City High School in 1978.

Following graduation, Billy began his career with Ashland in Kennedy in 1978, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2015. Billy truly enjoyed retirement and spent much of his time fishing, boating, and riding his side-by-side around the lake visiting with his many friends. He also loved barbequing for his family and was known for being especially good at it. Above all else, Billy's greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren, who he loved immensely.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Billy Joe and Dorothy Hancock. He is survived by his loving wife, Violet Boehm Hancock; children, Waylon (Randice) Hancock, Clayton (Katie) Hancock, Trevor (Loren) Hancock, Cody (Ana) Zaiontz, Joseph (Shelby) Zaiontz, and Dylan Saba; sister, Debra Liska of Hobson; and brother, Darrell Hancock of San Antonio. Billy was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Braxton, Maverick, and Lola Hancock; Connor and Makenna Hancock; Holland and Maddox Hancock; Logan and Delilah Zaiontz; and Sterling and Bryler Zaiontz. He will also be missed by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Helmuth Boehm; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

The Hancock family will be holding private services to honor Billy's life at a later date.

Billy will be remembered for his love of family, his generous spirit, and the happiness he found in the simple things - time on the water, good barbeque, and making memories with those he loved most. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
