On Sunday, June 14, 2020, Barbara Ann Bice Hamilton went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 87.
She was born on December 11, 1932 in Borger, Texas to Hazel Ellen and George Thomas Bice. Barbara was a loving and giving mother, a fierce English teacher and a devoted grandmother. Barbara graduated from Hooker High School in Oklahoma and went to college at Panhandle State University in Goodwell Oklahoma where she received her Bachelors Degree in English and she went to work! She taught in Hardesty Oklahoma, Lincoln California, Stratford Texas and finally made her home in Cimarron Kansas where she taught for 32 years. She received her Masters degree in English from Fort Hays State University in Hays Kansas. Ms. Hamilton, or Ms. H, valued a college education and worked 3 extra jobs in the summer and evenings to ensure her own 3 children went to school and received their degrees. She also ensured that all of her students were prepared to take on the world fully knowing the English language in its correct grammatical sense. She had the highest expectations of all of her students and very few ever let her down. She retired from teaching in 1995 to start her new job being a full time grandma. She devoted the last 24 years of her life to helping raise her grandchildren to walk with the Lord.
She loved to play cards and Dominoes with the gals; she loved her miniature poodles Boots and Babe; she loved Sonic hot dogs and vanilla cokes; she loved to go on long drives in the country; she loved to tell stories from her past; she loved to hear all the wonderful achievements of her grandchildren and, she loved her Lord. She was known for her perfect grammar, her memorization of Old English, her detailed stories, her love of God and the warmest heart ever.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Tommy, her mother, Hazel and her brother, Tommy Jr. She is survived by her son Rusty and daughter-in-law Robin, her daughter Terra and her son-in-law Parnel (the love of her life), her son Tracey and daughter-in-law Romie, as well as her grandchildren Mindy, Brandon, Ali, Haylee, Kent, Jon Taylor, Colton and McKenzie. She also has 3 adorable great grandchildren: Zoe Grace, Bode Brooks and Ari Grace. She is also survived by 100’s of students all over the United States.
Barbara filled the world with kindness, compassion and a constant desire to serve others the best way she knew how. She will be missed by those she taught and especially by those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
One of her favorite Bible verses was, “I have loved you with an everlasting love and therefore with loving kindness I will continue to hold you up.” (Jeremiah 31:3) She has been waiting patiently for the last few years for the Lord to bring her home and on Sunday, June 14, 2020 He finally said, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
The family is planning a private service that will be aired on Facebook Live. Details will be provided as they become available. Barbara Hamilton had a beautiful mind that was slowly stolen from her by Dementia. A Memorial account has been established and will be donated to the National Dementia Association. In lieu of flowers for the service, we would be honored to make donations in your name to honor her memory.
