Angela Alarcon Chavez

"She is clothed with strength and dignity...Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." Proverbs 31:25, 30 Angela Alarcon Chavez went Home to be with the Lord on March 8, 2017. She was born in Kingsville, Texas to Baldemar H. Alarcon and Dora McHaney Alarcon on May 1, 1973 and graduated with both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Angela was a dedicated educator and served as a teacher at the Presbyterian Pan American School, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and most recently, Memorial Middle School in Kingsville. Under her guidance, many students had the opportunity to compete in local, regional, and state science fair events. She also earned the prestigious title of Memorial Middle School's Teacher of the Year for the 2009-2010 school year.

Angela was a member of Iglesia Bautista Central in Kingsville, and later Primera Iglesia Bautista, Calallen, where she served as a youth leader and Sunday School teacher for children of all ages. She volunteered for many years with the South Texas Hispanic Youth Camp and helped to organize summer camps that impacted the lives of countless teenagers. She ministered to all those she met and was a fervent prayer warrior. She had a servant's heart and put her faith into action every day of her life.

Angela married the love of her life, David D. Chavez, in 2005. Her most treasured title was that of Mom to her son, David Matthew. She was fiercely proud of her family, and despite many health challenges, attended awards ceremonies, soccer games, and other events that were important to her "Mijo." She loved to cook, to sing, and to sew, and shared her handiwork with her family and friends.

Even through all of life's storms, her faith in God stood firm. She knew that, upon closing her eyes to this world, she would wake up in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her life and legacy are a testament to God's peace that fills our hearts and surpasses all human understanding.

Left to treasure her memory are her husband, David D. Chavez, and son, David Matthew Chavez, her father, Baldemar H. Alarcon, and brother, Gabriel M. Alarcon, her father- and mother-in-law, Rev. Jose and Julia Chavez, along with her sisters- and brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Dora McHaney Alarcon.

The Chavez and Alarcon families would like to thank the medical staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Corpus Christi Cancer Center for their care and attention.

Visitation will begin on Sunday, March 12 at 5 PM, with a Celebration of Life Service at 7 PM at Kingsville Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Kingsville Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, March 13 at 1 PM, followed by a graveside service at Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may wish to contribute to a GoFundMe page established for her son's educational expenses ( www.gofundme.com/DavidMChavez ).
