Alonso Javier Rodriguez peacefully passed away in Corpus Christi, Texas on October 8, 2026 shortly after gracefully and courageously bidding farewell to his gathered family. Al was born in Taft, Texas on December 30, 1951 to Maria and Agapito T. Rodriguez, Jr. (both deceased).
After graduating from Texas A&I University, Al enrolled in the University of Texas School of Law. He graduated in 1979. Al’s first job as an attorney was in the law office of his uncle, Alonzo T. Rodriguez. When his uncle was appointed judge of the San Patricio County District Court, Al accepted an attorney position with the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Al retired after 28 years of dedicated service to the FAA.
Al and his wife Silvana made their home in Norman, Oklahoma, where they raised two children. Their first born child is Marisa, who is a librarian with the Bell Whittington Public Library. Their second child is Randall, a physician. Family life in Norman was marked by coaching his children's little league baseball teams, evening walks in the park, and reading at his favorite book stores until midnight. He loved celebrating the holidays. He was especially fond of Christmas, so much so that he celebrated "Christmas 2" on March 25th.
After Al retired from the FAA, he and his family moved to Portland, Texas. This was a homecoming for both Al and Silvana. Al was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. A lifelong Roman Catholic, Al was devoted to his faith and the love of God. Al was a gentle man with a tender heart. He was a true follower of Christ and practiced His teachings.
Ever curious, Al possessed a first rate intellect. His childhood prominently featured many walks to the Taft Public Library, always returning home with an arm full of books. He had an ever expanding range of intellectual interests, from astronomy to theology, sports to music. While a deep thinker, Al was also a master of trivia, quick to supply an obscure fact, but never boasting the ease with which that knowledge came to him.
Al was a lifelong football fan of the University of Texas Longhorns. One of the joys of his life was watching Longhorn football games on television with his children. On treasured occasions, the family enjoyed attending Longhorn football games. To us, Al is a Longhorn legend.
Al is survived by his wife of 37 years and his children; his older sister, Lucille Guajardo; his brother, Andy Rodriguez; his younger sister, Tessie Sturgeon; and his aunt, Alicia Rodriguez. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends from life spent in South Texas and Oklahoma. Al will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, and generous human being. He was a sweet and loving prince of a man.
