Allen Loyd Mengers

Loyd Mengers passed away at the age of 81 on Saturday December 7, 2019 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on August 27, 1938 in Mathis, Texas to Gus O. Mengers and Alvena Atzenhofer Mengers. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Margie L. Mengers, son Scott (Roberta) Mengers, daughter Lisa (Bart) Arndt , sister Loretta (Buddy ) Maedgen, , brother in law James (Melody ) Lehrmann., grandchildren Gus (Cheyenne) Mengers, Chloe Mengers, Taylor Arndt, Dylan Arndt.

Pall Bearers: Gus Mengers, Dylan Arndt, Ray Brown, Cassie Nelson, Jon Whatley, James Lehrmann, John Steelhammer, and Trey Williams.

Honorary Pall Bearers: Bob Whatley, Charlie Daws, Calvin Weiss, Buddy Maedgen, Charlie Neal, Bobby Bauch, Jerry Edmondson, and W.A Henderson.

Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Wednesday December 11, 2019 at Dobie Funeral Home, Mathis, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Thursday December 12, 2019 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Orange Grove, Texas, followed by Interment to Waldheim Cemetery in Tynan, Texas.

Loyd graduated from Mathis High School in 1956. He attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas, then A&I University- Kingsville. Loyd married the love of his life Margie Lehrmann Mengers at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sagerton Texas on June 20, 1959.

In his younger years, he was a member of the San Patricio County ASC Committee for 3 terms, for 9 years he was a director, secretary, and chairman of the Bee Co. Coop. Association. He was recognized as Outstanding Conservation Farmer of San Patricio Soil and Water Conservation District and also Outstanding Associate Member of Young Farmers of Area X in 1979 and also in 1989. Farming was his love and livelihood, while hunting and playing dominoes were his favorite hobbies.

Loyd was a member of Grace Lutheran in Mathis and was president of the Church Council for many years. Before Grace Closed he was an usher every Sunday. He is now member of First Evangelical Lutheran of Orange Grove.
